Kathmandu – Former Nepali President Bidya Devi Bhandari has officially renounced all state-provided services and facilities, effective Wednesday. This move follows her announcement to re-engage actively in the politics of the CPN-UML party.

Bhandari submitted a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs, addressed to the Home Secretary, stating that she would no longer accept any services or facilities as of Wednesday. She is believed to be the first leader in Nepal to voluntarily give up such government entitlements.

While Bhandari has relinquished most of her benefits, her security and protocol-related facilities will remain in place, as mandated for former heads of state.

Previously, the government provided Bhandari with a personal secretary (equivalent to an Under-Secretary), an office assistant, and another employee. The Ministry of Home Affairs also directly paid the house rent for her security personnel to the respective landlords.
