Shankar Pokharel, the General Secretary of the CPN-UML, has stated that four different forces are currently targeting his party. According to Pokharel, even though these attacks are happening because UML is strongly advocating for national interests and public concerns, the party must firmly resist to prevent these forces from achieving their selfish goals.

During his speech at the sixth meeting of the UML Kathmandu District Committee held in Tokha today, Pokharel said that monarchists, Maoists, socialist populists, and foreign powers are behind the attacks on UML.

“UML is primarily facing cyber attacks from four groups,” Pokharel explained. “These groups are trying to weaken UML through social media: monarchists, Maoists, socialist populists, and foreign forces. Their motivations align against us because if UML is weakened, their interests will be fulfilled.”

He emphasized that monarchists are attacking UML because, without UML, there would be no obstacle to reinstating the monarchy at Narayanhiti Palace.

Pokharel identified the Maoists and socialists as another source of attacks, suggesting that parties with communist names believe they cannot progress unless they weaken UML. Therefore, these parties attempt to undermine UML, according to his remarks.

The third group attacking UML is identified as the Rastriya Swatantra Party and figures like Balen Shah, who Pokharel describes as using populism to confuse the public and attack UML. He claimed that they recognize UML as capable of opposing and exposing their flawed policies.

Finally, Pokharel mentioned foreign powers as adversaries, alleging that many believe a weakened UML would allow them to turn Nepal into a puppet. As a result, UML and its leadership become their targets, he argued.
