Kathmandu – In Kashipur, a city in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, 35 young individuals from various districts of Nepal have been rescued after being lured with the promise of attractive jobs and subsequently held captive.

The rescue operation was launched following reports that these youths had been subjected to physical assault and torture, and money had been extorted from them under various pretexts. The operation was carried out under the directive of Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as announced by the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi.

With the support of the Uttarakhand police and a social organization named ‘KIN India’, the embassy successfully rescued the victims on the 5th of Asar (Nepali calendar).

The embassy further informed that several individuals related to this incident have been arrested by the Uttarakhand police, and an investigation is ongoing to find and rescue more Nepali youths who might still be held captive in other locations in the area.

Efforts are also underway to complete legal procedures to send the rescued individuals back to Nepal.
