World Must Say ‘No’ to the US Undermining the International Order

As the world undergoes accelerating changes on a scale unseen in a century, humanity once again stands at a crossroads. People around the globe, particularly in developing countries, are calling for peace, development, cooperation, and mutual benefit. They seek joint efforts to tackle global challenges and improve human well-being. Yet, certain countries are moving against the tide of history, trampling on international norms and persistently sabotaging the hard-won international order. This has raised grave concerns and strong opposition among people of conscience worldwide. The United States stands as the primary disruptor of the international order. Driven by hegemonism and power politics, the U.S. continues to bully smaller nations, and impose sanctions at will, triggering trade wars, technology wars, and financial wars across the World. The bruteness of its actions and the selfishness of its motives have unveiled reality that the U.S. doesn’t follow even mind international order. The so-called ‘international order’ promoted by the U.S. is nothing more than a tool to serve its own interests. When its national interests conflict with international rules, the U.S. does not hesitate to abandon the rules, even at the cost of systematically undermining global strategic stability.

We must recognize that current international order was not formed naturally but was established through painful lessons learned from two world wars. Following the Second World War, a new international system centered with the United Nations was founded to safeguard global peace and development. The principles enshrined in the UN Charter–sovereign equality, non-interference in internal affairs, and peaceful resolution of disputes–have become the cornerstone of international stability. Within this UN-centered system, countries–regardless of size or wealth–enjoy equal voices and legitimate rights, enabling global governance to proceed in an orderly and institutionalized manner.

However, in recent years, the United States has completely deviated from this framework. It has unilaterally withdrawn from UNESCO and the Human Rights Council, flagrantly undermined multilateralism by tearing up the Iran nuclear deal and the Paris Agreement, and has repeatedly placed itself above international rules. Such behavior is not only a rejection of the post-WWII international order but also a direct challenge to global peace and development. If left unchecked, America’s actions will erode the foundation of humanity’s shared order and plunge the world back into an era of lawless competition.

China, as a victorious nation in the Chinese people’s resistance against Japanese aggression and the world anti-fascist war, made tremendous sacrifices and irreplaceable contributions to the restoration of world peace. Today, China is committed to upholding the authority of the UN Charter, actively participating in global governance, and promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. It has become a key pillar in preserving the international order.

Yet, the United States continues to provoke China on the Taiwan question, attempting to use the “Taiwan card” to contain the rise of China. This not only constitutes blatant interference in China’s internal affairs but also violates United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758. Taiwan has belonged to China since ancient times. The historical context is clear, and the legal facts are indisputable. The Cairo Declaration issued by China, the United States and Great Britain on 1st December 1943 stated:“Japan shall be stripped of all the islands in the Pacific which she has seized or occupied since the beginning of the First World War in 1914, and that all the territories Japan has stolen from the Chinese, such as Manchuria, Formosa [Taiwan], and the Pescadores [Penghu], shall be restored to the China.” The Potsdam Proclamation signed by China, the United States and Great Britain on 26 July 1945 (subsequently adhered to by the Soviet ) reiterated: “The terms of the Cairo Declaration shall be carried out.” On September 2, 1945, Japan signed the Japanese Instrument of Surrender, committing to fulfill the provisions of the Potsdam Proclamation. On October 25 of the same year, the Chinese government declared the resumption of sovereignty over Taiwan and held the “Surrender Ceremony of the Taiwan Province of the China War Zone”in Taipei. These legal documents, with clear international standing, reaffirm China’s sovereignty over Taiwan in both law and fact. In 1971, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 2758, restoring the lawful seat of the People’s Republic of China at the UN and recognizing that there is only one China, and Taiwan is part of China. This resolution is a political document that embodies the one-China principle. Its legal authority has been fully confirmed through international practice and allows no distortion or challenge.

The so-called ‘international order’ promoted by the U.S. is nothing more than a tool to serve its own interests.

In recent years, with the aim to contain China, the United States has flagrantly distorted the content and spirit of Resolution 2758 and emboldened separatist forces advocating ‘Taiwan independence’ attempting to erode the international consensus on the one-China principle. But lies repeated a thousand times remain lies. No matter how the U.S. and the “Taiwan independence” separatist forces collude and fabricate narratives, they cannot change the fact that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China. They cannot shake the global adherence to the one-China principle, nor can they stop the inevitable and complete reunification of China.

Encouragingly, more and more countries now understand the importance of safeguarding the international order and recognize the necessity of jointly upholding UN resolutions. The world must not allow the U.S. to undermine global justice through double standards.

Nepal, China’s friendly neighbor, has long adhered firmly to the One-China principle and unequivocally supports UN General Assembly Resolution 2758. This reflects the Nepali government and people’s deep commitment to fairness and justice. Bound by mountains and rivers, China and Nepal have enjoyed generations of friendship. The two sides support each other in multilateral affairs and engage in mutually beneficial cooperation for development. To safeguard China-Nepal friendship is to defend international justice. To support China’s position is to uphold the international order. We hope more countries will follow Nepal’s example, resolutely defending the UN-centered international system, and rendering all schemes undermining international order utterly powerless against the collective will of the international community.
