PM Oli lays wreath at Martyr’s Gate on Martyrs’ Day

Kathmandu, Jan 29: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli visited Martyrs Memorial Park at Lainchaur and Martyr’s Gate nearby Sundhara and paid his homage to the martyrs.

Marking the Martyrs’ Day today, PM Oli laid a wreath at the statues of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for establishment of democracy and republican system in the country.

Martyrs’ Day is observed every year on Magh 16 of Nepali month in memory of brave heroes who gave up on their lives for democratic revolution and democratic people’s movement against the Rana oligarchy. The Day is being celebrated since 2007 BS with various programmes honouring the enduring contributions of the martyrs.

Present on the wreath laying ceremony were the Deputy Prime Ministers, ministers, parliamentarians from various political parties, the Chief Secretary of the government of Nepal, chiefs of security agencies and Deputy Mayor of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City among others. They also paid their heartfelt tributes to the martyrs.

A special Martyrs’ Day event is scheduled at Singha Durbar premises later today with PM Oli as the chief guest.
