Political Leaders Pay Tribute to Late Former Speaker Damannath Dhungana with State Honors

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli paid his respects to the late former Speaker, Damannath Dhungana, by draping the national flag over his mortal remains.

Today, he visited the Sano Gaucharn area in Gyaneshwor, where he offered his condolences. Alongside Oli, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba also honored Dhungana by draping the party’s flag over the body.

Along with Oli and Deuba, other notable figures including Baburam Bhattarai, Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut, Ramesh Lekhak, former Speaker Agni Sapkota, Jhalnath Khanal, and Gagan Thapa, among others, paid their respects.

Former Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, former Prime Minister and CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal, former Chief Justice Sushil Karki, and Nepal Electricity Authority Executive Director Kulman Ghising, among others, also visited to offer their tributes.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Oli described the late former Speaker Dhungana as a multifaceted personality with a distinct identity and recognition in Nepal’s parliamentary practices. “He left a unique impact on Nepal’s parliamentary practice, and it is necessary for us to follow the path he showed,” he said.

Earlier today, a Cabinet meeting had decided to conduct his funeral with state honors. Deputy Prime Minister and other Cabinet members also visited Gaucharan to offer their condolences.

Former Speaker Dhungana, who had been undergoing treatment for some time due to health issues related to his kidneys, passed away at the age of 83 on Sunday afternoon at the Frontline Hospital in Baneshwor.
