Eight Lakhs passengers have left the valley to celebrate Dashain

Kathmandu – According to the Department of Transport Management , around 8 Lakhs passengers have already left Kathmandu Valley to celebrate Dashain. The Department estimates that approximately 1 million passengers will leave this year.

Department President Bijay Swar stated that although they had initially anticipated 1.5 to 1.8 million passengers leaving the valley for Dashain, the number has been lower due to road blockages caused by floods and landslides. ‘The roads are in poor condition, making it difficult for people to travel,’ he said, adding, ‘Those who have homes outside the valley are also planning to celebrate Dashain in Kathmandu this year, and many have opted for air travel.’

He further mentioned that the trend of people leaving the valley for Dashain will continue until Friday, and the final number of passengers is yet to be determined. ‘We will have a clearer picture of the total number of passengers who have left by the end of the day, as people will continue to leave until Friday,’ Swar said.

Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Spokesperson Bishwaraj Khadka informed that they are conducting regular checks on highways to minimize road accidents due to the increased traffic during Dashain.”
