Prasai Released on Bail After 9 Days
Durga Prasai, arrested on cybercrime charges, is set to be released after only nine days in custody.
On Tuesday, Judge Thakur Prasad Kharele of the Kathmandu District Court ordered his release on a bail of 50,000 rupees for each of the two charges against him, according to Registrar Ramu Sharma. ‘He has been charged with two cases, and a bail of 50,000 rupees has been demanded for each case,’ Sharma said.
Prasai was arrested from his residence in Bhaktapur on Ashoj 6. He was arrested on charges under the Electronic Transactions Act after making arbitrary statements about a woman on social media.
Although the police generally have the authority to keep a suspect in custody for up to 24 days for investigation, Prasai is set to be released after only nine days as the police have completed the investigation and filed the case quickly.
