Atishi Marlena Set to Become Delhi’s New Chief Minister Following Kejriwal’s Resignation

Atishi Marlena, who has been the Education Minister in Arvind Kejriwal’s government, is set to become Delhi’s new Chief Minister. Arvind Kejriwal proposed her name at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislative meeting on Tuesday.

It has been announced that the official declaration of Atishi’s name will be made shortly. Kejriwal’s party holds a two-thirds majority in Delhi. At 4:30 PM, Kejriwal will submit his resignation to Lieutenant Governor Vinai Saxena. The new Chief Minister is expected to be sworn in later this week. A two-day session of the legislature has been scheduled for September 26 and 27.

On September 13, the Supreme Court granted Kejriwal conditional bail in the liquor policy case. Following his release, Kejriwal announced his resignation from the Chief Minister’s position on September 15. He stated that the public would decide whether he is honest or corrupt. He has declared that he will only return as Chief Minister if elected again by the people.

Atishi, who has worked closely with Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, strengthened the party and kept it united while Kejriwal and Sisodia were in jail. She handled six important ministries, including Education, during Sisodia’s imprisonment. Additionally, she was part of the team that prepared the party’s manifesto in 2013.

Born in 1981, Atishi holds a Master’s degree in History from Oxford. She has been actively involved with the Aam Aadmi Party since joining in 2013. She will be the third woman to become the Chief Minister of Delhi. Previously, Sushma Swaraj served as Delhi’s Chief Minister for 52 days in 1998, and Sheila Dikshit served three consecutive terms from 1998 to 2013.
