Hindu women across Nepal are marking the Rishi Panchami festival today, a significant event that concludes the Teej festival. Observed on the fifth day of the bright half-moon in the Bhadra month, Rishi Panchami holds special religious importance.
In celebration of Rishi Panchami, the Risheshwar Temple in Teku, Kathmandu, has been open to the public since midnight. The local authorities of Kathmandu Metropolitan Ward 12 have made special arrangements for devotees, including deploying security personnel, scouts, and volunteers to ensure safety and manage the crowd.
The ward office has also completed various preparations to facilitate the event, including cleaning the temple premises, painting, and arranging street lighting.
Ward Chairperson Balakrishna Maharjan stated that measures have been put in place to ensure a smooth and efficient experience for women observing the Teej fast, as well as to provide easy access for the elderly and disabled, ensuring they do not have to wait in line.
The festival is dedicated to honoring the Saptarishi, or Seven Saints, who are revered figures in Hindu tradition. The saints venerated on this day include Kashyapa, Atri, Bharadwaja, Vishwamitra, Gautama, Jamadagni, and Vashishta. The Rishi Panchami festival highlights the cultural and religious practices integral to Hindu traditions, reflecting devotion and reverence in the community.
