Kimberly Cheatle, U.S. Secret Service Director resigns

Kathmandu: The United States Secret Service Director, Kimberly Cheatle,  has resigned following assassination attempts against presidential candidate as well as former president Donald J Trump on 13 July.

Thomas Matthew Crooks, aged 20, had opened fire against Trump at the campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump had right ear injury in the incident that killed one attendee leaving other two critically injured.

Cheatle’s resignation came amid mounting pressure to step down from the post after the incident.

Cheatle, acknowledging the security lapse, has decided to step down.

“Lawmakers from both parties told Ms. Cheatle during a contentious hearing on Monday that she should step down” , mentioned The Epoch Time.

“I take full responsibility for the security lapse,” she said in the email to Secret Service staff, the paper said adding “In light of recent events, it is with a heavy heart that I have made the difficult decision to step down as your director.”
