FBI identifies shooter, Trump returns from hospital
Kathmandu, 14 July: The FBI named shooter-killed at the scene by Secret Service – as Thomas Matthew Crooks, aged 20, however the motive is yet to be identified, international media said.
Crooks, resident of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania opened fire at U. S. Presidential candidate as well as former President Donald Trump at the campaign rally on Saturday evening (U. S. Time) in Butler.
Trump with a minor injury has returned to his home in New Jersey from the hospital, said BBC adding “Trump, who emerged with a bloodied face, says he was shot in the ear”.
Trump had been swiftly rushed offstage by the Secret Service agents and rushed to a local hospital after the incident.
The FBI has called the shooting an assassination attempt against Trump. “This evening, we had what we’re calling an assassination attempt against our former President Donald Trump. It’s still an active crime scene,” said CNN quoting Kevin Rojek, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Pittsburgh field office.
One attendee is killed in the incident that left the other two critically injured.
President Joe Biden “has condemned the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, calling on all Americans to denounce such “sick” violence”, according to BBC.
