In the Central African Republic’s capital, a stampede triggered by an explosion resulted in the death of 29 children.

The incident occurred in Bangui, where a blast from an electrical transformer caused panic among students taking exams at a nearby school, stated Abel Assele of Bangui Community Hospital.

According to Radio Station Ndeke Luka, the explosion’s loud noise and smoke frightened about 6,000 students who were sitting for their graduation exams, leading to a rush that tragically caused the deaths.

President Faustin-Archange Touadéra has declared a national day of mourning. Over 280 injured children are currently receiving medical attention following the incident.

Reports indicate that students from various schools in the capital were participating in the graduation exams at the time.
