Kathmandu – Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak stated that of the 11 people who died in the flood of the Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa, only two have been identified.

Speaking at a meeting of the Public Policy and Subordinate Legislation Committee under the National Assembly, he reported that 20 people went missing in Nepal due to the flood, and another 11 disappeared from Chinese territory, with reports from China indicating they may have been swept over and ended up within Nepal. He also mentioned that search efforts are underway for them.

So far, the bodies of 11 people who went missing in Nepal due to the flood have been recovered.

He advised that if a missing person’s body cannot be found within ten days of the disaster, they will be treated as deceased for the purposes of relief. He added that the government is on readiness for search, rescue, and reconstruction efforts, and claimed the early-warning system had been made efficient and robust.

On advance warnings, he noted that SMS alerts didn’t reach effectively, and that the government is planning to coordinate with telephone service providers so that the phone rings simultaneously and people pick up in case of emergency alerts.
