18 Saurya airlines staff perish in the aircrash
Kathmandu, Jul 24; Altogether 18 people on board the Saurya Airlines aircraft are dead after the aircraft skidded off the runway and its engine caught fire on the eastern side of Tribhuvan International Airport today.
There were 19 people, all staff of the airlines, on board the CRJ-100 that was bound for Pokhara for a routine C-check, Saurya Airlines said. Senior Pilot Manish Shakya survived with a head injury and has been admitted to KMC Hospital for treatment. Those dead included engineers, mechanics, and other support staff of the airline.
The accident took place at 11 o’clock in the morning. A coordinated rescue operation conducted by the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, and the Nepal Police was able to extinguish the fire within a few minutes of the accident, but the passengers on board could not be saved, the airline said.
